On My Mind...
In the message Sunday morning I said, “The commission of our Lord is your call to service in His kingdom.” Every one of us has been called to gospel work. We, each of us individually, and we together, have the responsibility and privilege of taking the message of the gospel to the world. Paul said to the Romans, “How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news...So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ (Romans 10:14-18).”
I wanted to take just a minute and express my gratitude for some of our “beautiful feet people.” Today is the first meeting of our Good News Club at Robertson Elementary. Each week our missionaries will be going into Robertson to bring the gospel to the students there. There will be music, games and a Bible lesson. Pray for our team as they teach and live out the truth of the gospel each week. I remind you this is a spiritual work. A work that can only be accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit. Pray that the Spirit will awaken the minds and hearts of the students. Pray that their eyes will be opened to the beauty and wonder of God’s love for them in Christ. Pray that they come to recognize their need of a Savior and of God’s gracious provision. Pray that our team be granted wisdom and discernment for dealing with the kids, responding to their questions and understanding their needs. Pray that the influence of this work will be felt throughout the school, impacting the faculty and staff. Pray that families will be impacted by this work. The Lord has entrusted us with a great work at Robertson; may we be found faithful. Pray for Karen Collins (team leader) as she guides this work. Pray for Susan McCaskill, Bob Lowery, Gale Guthrie, Nolan Cochran and Daniel Janz as they serve. Daniel is a member at Woodland Acres Baptist Church who joined our team last year.
Thank you for being part of our team through your prayers. This is our work, together. You might want to set a reminder on your phone. Mine is set for noon on Mondays. I get an alert, “Pray for the Good News Club.” I’ve listed our team as a way of reminding me to pray for them every Monday. If you think about it, send them a text or a card and let them know you are praying. Ask them if there is a specific need they would like for you to pray about? It will enable you to feel more a part of the team and will be a great encouragement to them.
In closing, thank you for your investment in our community. Our long-term involvement with Good News Club (I think about 12 years now) and our feeding Webster teams (multiple years as well). I’m excited about things in the works for greater involvement at Webster and throughout our community as we join with other churches to extend the Kingdom of God and minister to the folks who live in our community.
I will see you Sunday for worship. Have a blessed week!
