On My Mind...
Thank you for your input yesterday with your nominations of men to serve our fellowship as deacons. We have some been blessed by God with gifted, quality men from which to choose. Over the next few weeks, we will be working through the process seeking to discern the Lord’s will in this matter. I remind you, we do not “make deacons” we “recognize” them. We find those the Lord has already given to serve us and recognize what He is already doing. This will involve discussion, teaching, praying, interviewing and then come back to you, the church, for final determination. Pray for our current deacons as we move through the process, pray for those nominated as they seek the Lord’s will for their lives, and pray for our body that we will continue to seek the Lord together and live for His glory.
Don’t forget, we have some ladies heading down to Nicaragua this week to conduct a women’s conference. Pray for Maryem, Stacy, Faith and the other ladies who will be leading in this conference. Pray for safety as they travel and while in country. Pray that they might be used of God to encourage and equip these women. Continue to pray for the Immanuel Home of Protection and the “drama” that has been going on there with some of the girls.
Our Good News Club is off to a good start at Robertson. Pray for Karen and her team as they take the gospel to those students on Monday after school throughout this school year. Pray for open minds and hearts. Pray that the gospel finds good soil and produces fruit in the lives of those students and their families. Pray for our on-going efforts at Webster with the football meals and the mentoring program. Also, twice a year (once a semester) we feed students at TCC. This past week we fed over 200 at the downtown campus. Occasionally, someone asks, “Where are the students from all this effort? I haven’t seen anyone come to church from all this work.” That’s not why we do it. The gospel is worthy telling whether we witness the results or not. If we are faithful to do the Lord’s work, He will bless us as He sees fit. If we are not careful, we start treating people like they are a “project,” rather than an opportunity to demonstrate the love of God and the truth of the gospel. When we are faithful, He proves He is faithful. Ministry is not based on cost efficiency, “Not getting the right bang for our buck? Cut if off and move on.” I would rather do good and trust the Lord to bless as He chooses. It’s worth thinking about.
Have a blessed week,
Rod
