The Mind of the Pastor

Some thoughts…

What a great weekend!  Thank you Betty Roseborough,  Linda Clayton, Phelicia West and Cindy Cortez Williams for all your planning and work for the Youth Choir Reunion.  We had a wonderful time as members and past members gathered to laugh, tell stories, and catch up on each other’s lives.  It was good to see some folks I haven’t seen in years.  Thank you to those who provided deserts, we had so much we used them again Sunday for our luncheon.  Linda, I still can’t believe you kept those dresses!  Again, thanks to all who made the reunion such a success.

I’m also grateful for our first Sunday lunch.  It is great to see 90 plus stay for lunch after church.  The food is always great and the fellowship is sweet.  I love sitting and looking at a crowded fellowship building, hearing the laughter and seeing little kids running around.  It is the sign of life.  If you’ve not been joining us, why not plan now for staying and eating with us on July 2?  You will be glad you did.

I want to remind you of a couple of things.  First, Vacation Bible School is upon us.  It will be June 26-30.  Please help us get the word out.  We will gather for a few hours each evening for fun, Bible study, music and food.  Our theme this year is, Twist & Turns: Following Jesus Changes Everything!  It is built on a game theme.  We will be learning that Jesus is Holy, Jesus is Trustworthy, Jesus is Forgiving, Jesus is Worth Following and Jesus is for Everyone!  Pray for our leaders and workers as we seek to encourage our kids to follow Jesus.

A second thing I wanted to make you aware of is that the new sign is in the works.  Paperwork is being filed with the city, the design work is done, and we hope to have it in place by the 2nd week of July!  Of course, that also means we have to pay for it.  Half the money was due when we signed the contract.  The balance is due upon completion.  We have some money left from the insurance payment from the damage done to our sign but we knew when we voted that we would have to raise an additional $9000.  The balance due is $12,616.22.  We have a balance of $6,690 in the building fund.  So, we have another $6,000 to raise by the 2nd week in July.  Please prayerfully consider how you can help us with the additional funds.  We also are dealing with some electrical issues in the fellowship building, and the air conditions.  We are also exploring how to get water around to the front of the building (41st street side) for landscaping.  All that to say, “There are the regular, on-going needs in addition to this special need.  As always, I’m grateful for your generosity and your faithfulness.

I look forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day.
