On My Mind...
What a great day Sunday! I appreciate the word Devin brought to us, enjoyed the singing but most of all, enjoyed being with you. Every week is special as we gather as the family of God to sing the praise of God, hear His word proclaimed and encourage one another. This coming Sunday is no exception. We will gather again for worship and this time we will recognize our graduates and witness baptism.
Baptism is one of the two ordinances given to the Church by our Lord. It is the public declaration of our faith in the risen Lord and our identification with Him. It is the testimony of the spiritual reality that has already taken place as we have died to an old way of life and risen to new life in Christ. Baptism is a symbol but much more than a “mere” symbol. When a believer is baptized that person is declaring, “I’m a follower of Christ. I’ve been given new life and am called to obey Him as my sovereign and king.” As such, that person is calling on us to hold them accountable to that new life. By witnessing the baptism, we are affirming that life and committing to our covenant responsibility to live the faith together. This is why baptism is a church act, not an individual act. We are not mere observers, we are participants. Sunday is going to be a great day.
I also want to take just a moment and welcome a new Schweiger in our midst. Colin Douglas Schweiger arrived safely later Saturday afternoon/early evening. He came in at 8 pounds 2 ounces and 22 inches in height. Momma and baby are doing fine. Congratulations Jamin, Erika and the rest of the Schweiger clan.
Have a blessed week and I will see you Sunday.
