On My Mind...
It’s 2025? But, yesterday it was 1978! I’ve noticed as I’ve aged, time moves a lot faster. “Do you remember the other day when we…” and my kids respond, “Pop’s that was 20 years ago.” I was a child in the 60’s watching the Jetsons, I can’t believe we are not all driving flying cars. Although I can make and receive calls on my phone like Dick Tracy. Life is different, and yet not so different. I’m not a prophet, nor the son of a prophet, but I can tell you 2025 will bring the unexpected, the unwanted and the despised. I know that because we live in a fallen world. A world corrupted by sin. Yet, we do not despair because of the Gospel, because of the love and care of our Sovereign God. Because of Christ, our future is bright.
I want you to know how much I love and appreciate you. I look around before and after services and I see such love, support and encouragement as you interact with one another and my heart is warmed. That is what the church is about – life together. The gospel embraced and lived out, together for the glory of God. I want to encourage you and your Sunday School class to consider what you can do together to impact our community in this next year. I want you to think, as individuals, what ministries you can serve with your talents, gifts and abilities. Think about who you can invest your life in over this next year. Think about asking someone to meet with you regularly to pray and encourage one another. Maybe read a book together. Think about approaching someone younger in the faith, and make appoint to invest in them, disciple them in the faith. Find someone a little further along in the faith, attach yourself and learn from them. That’s the best method for discipleship. It’s not a program, it is a lifestyle. It is the sharing of life together. By the way, that really is what evangelism is as well. I’m asking you to invest your life in others this coming year.
My prayer for you this year is that, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:14-19).
Don’t forget, we will be voting on the proposed budget for 2025 on Sunday morning January 5, following the morning worship service.
I’m looking forward to worshiping with you and your family, as we gather this Sunday. Have a blessed week, and I’ll see you Sunday.
