On My Mind...

It’s good to be home!  I appreciate so much brother Steve filling in for me on the 14th, it’s a great encouragement knowing you will be well fed in my absence.  I saw one of those church sign memes the other day on Facebook, “Pastor is gone this Sunday, come hear some good preaching.”  I heard that, “amen!”  Thanks to Russell for filling in on the Wednesday evening Bible study.  I’m also grateful our team made it home safely from Nicaragua.  I enjoyed hearing some stories on Sunday and look forward to the team’s report soon.  We will let you know the details of the report service as soon as they are made.

Vacation Bible School begins this evening!  Pray for all the workers and the kids as we get underway.  The forecast calls for rain all week but that will not dampen our enthusiasm, though it will require some flexibility.  Pray for grace and wisdom in making those adjustments.  Pray for the minds and hearts of the kids to be open and receptive to the gospel.  Pray for clarity and precision as the gospel is taught.  Our hope is that many will come to faith in Christ through our efforts this week.

As you noted in the bulletin the last couple of weeks, we are participating in the annual “Westside Give Back” for kids heading back to school in the fall.  This year’s event will be at the Red Fork Depot on Saturday, August 8.  We’ve committed to supplying 30 backpacks.  15 for junior high/high school and 15 for elementary.  The junior high and high school backpacks must be clear, the elementary do not.  We can receive them anytime from now to the event.  You can drop them off in the church office.  We will also need some volunteers for the event as we will set up a table and hand out school supplies, information about our church and visit with folks as they come through.  This is a great opportunity to meet our neighbors and demonstrate, in a very practical way, the love of Christ.  If you would like to volunteer just let us know.  There will be more information as the event approaches.

Have a blessed week and I’ll see you Sunday.
